Southend midfielder Jack Payne has extended his contract with the club until 2016 following a clause in his contract.
The 20-year-old triggered the deal after starting his 10th league game of the season against Northampton last Saturday. "I'm over the moon at the news regarding Jack," boss Phil Brown told the official club website. "He's been another one who has come through the youth system and shows the hard work that goes into the youth development at Southend United. "He's a big player for us and he's a young man who is just at the start of what I'm sure will be an exciting career."
