Jack Sock stunned top seed John Isner in the quarter-finals of the ATP Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Rhode Island on Friday.

Sock, seeded seventh and fresh from Wimbledon men's doubles success, overcame 2011 and 2012 champion Isner 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in the grass-court tournament to secure a last-four meeting with Lleyton Hewitt.

Third seed Hewitt earlier toppled sixth seed Steve Johnson 6-4 6-4 in the day's quarter-final. Unseeded Samuel Groth and second seed Ivo Karlovic advanced to the semi-finals on Thursday.

Hewitt's win kept him in the hunt to go one better than he has managed over the past two years, having finished runner-up in 2012 and 2013.

"I feel pretty good at the moment," the 33-year-old former world No 1 told the ATP’s official website.

"I'm getting my match toughness back. I think that's important when you're out there. You're on auto-pilot on the big points."

Isner was left to rue what might have been after losing out to fellow American Sock.

He said: "I missed a lot of easy shots. I didn't (convert) the three break points. Matches go that way sometimes."
