Verdict

CANFORD CLIFFS vaulted to favouritism for the 2000 Guineas next season as he routed his field in sensational fashion. Richard Hughes had his mount in the front rank and was clearly tanking along halfway through the race as the challengers lined up. But he soon had them all at work and when Hughes asked his mount to stretch he zoomed clear to score by six lengths. One firm took a chance and priced him up at 16s for the next year's colts' classic but that was soon jumped on and single-figure quotes are the current order of the day. The Coventry is not great at producing Guineas winners but you had to be impressed with this and he is an early player for sure in the market. The July Stakes is likely to tell us more next month. No Hubris and Red Jazz travelled up with the winner for half of the race but were blown away so the places went to Xtension and Rakaan, who stayed on late from the rear. They bumped into a cracking winner here and should have their day somewhere down the line.
