Verdict

Not the strongest juvenile event of the week but a historic win nonethless for American raider STRIKE THE TIGER. He certainly knew his job as he was smartly out of the stalls and travelling well for John Velasquez towards the stands' rail before being asked to win his race two furlongs out. He was soon in command and although his winning margin was only a neck, he looked to have more in reserve if required. Runner-up Fratellino ran a remarkable race and is proving a tremendous money spinner for connections. A very cheap purchase, this was his eighth run since mid-April and he is absolutely thriving on the workload. He was out of the stalls in a flash and showed blinding speed to lead until the winner went by. He refused to be swallowed up though and kept on again right to the line, closing on the winner close home. Five furlongs looks ideal for him and he will take some pegging back in the Molecomb at Goodwood. Di Stefano made good late progress into third spot while Tim Easterby's Little Scotland really caught the eye in fourth - he is sure to be a short price if trying to break his duck in an ordinary maiden in the north. Angel's Pursuit was sent off favourite for Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes but never really got into it although he did not get the clearest run.
