In depth

Verdict

Little Dalham can beat Claret And Amber and Campeon in what could turn out to be an informative maiden to get proceedings under way on the Knavesmire. Peter Chapple-Hyam has made a splendid return to the ranks, especially with his youngsters, and in Little Dalham he has the ammunition to to add to his tally. The son of Diktat learnt enough from his Catterick debut to run the favourite Johhny Jumpup close at Salisbury next time, and should have progressed enough to go one better here before eventually tackling Redcar's big Two-Year-Old Trophy in the autumn. Campeon is by far the most experienced runner in the field and will go on the fast ground, while Claret And Amber, who got going a bit too late here last time, can go well with a better start. Of the newcomers, Etoile Russe gets a favourable mention, but we prefer the claims of Little Dalham.
