Verdict

To Sender is taken to give John Gosden back-to-back victories in the first juvenile contest of the week at the Royal meeting, with Marcus Andronicus, Emirates Gold and the Mick Channon pair Ba Foxtrot and Zato all making for a competitive renewal. Like last year's winner Iceman, To Sender began his career with a smooth debut success at Newbury a month ago, the son of King's Best proving too good for Ivan Denisovich despite being on his toes at the start and running green. He has done nothing but impress at home since, and will be difficult to beat. Marcus Andronicus is a stablemate of Ivan Denisovich so Aidan O'Brien will at least be able gauge the merits of today's Ballydoyle contender who did nothing wrong when scooting up over the course and distance last month. That was on soft ground though, and unless it rains he may find conditions a bit too lively. Emirates Gold also encountered cut in the the ground when successful at Newmarket, but the dam is a daughter of former Coventry Stakes winner Sri Pekan, and with Godolphin slowly but surely coming back to form, he can improve enough to take a hand. Mick Channon runs two in-form individuals in Zato and Ba Foxtrot, with the latter's Epsom Listed win giving him claims of a sort. He has bags of speed though, and might just be done for toe near the finish. Cool Creek, Red Clubs and Tent all need to step up a gear to figure, as do local hopes Amadeus Wolf and Sir Xaar, but they at least add further spice to the occasion. To Sender is well regarded though, and can return to the winner's enclosure again.
