      Verdict

Seven furlongs seemed to beat GEORGE BAKER last time so with this one stepping down in trip he should take the beating in this maiden with New Christmas entitled to come on from a nice debut while Marrayah is the most interesting newcomer. It's disappointing that jockey George Baker doesn't ride the selection trained by his namesake has he has done in the last three starts but beyond that gimmick this gelding sets the standard after not being disgraced in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. New Christmas ran a very pleasing debut in a decent looking Newmarket maiden and having not finished far behind an animal who is rated 80 he has a shout here. Marrayah is a well bred half sister to a winning debutant over this trip so can be expected to go well first time out and with the others in the field making only limited appeal without market confidence to guide us this should be a good opportunity for George Baker.
