In depth

Verdict

Alan Swinbank looks to have picked up another fair bumper horse in the shape of Brinkmanship, who can put his experience to good use and get the better of Wilhewispa and Milljaz, who make the most appeal from the rest with experience, while Barney's Luck is an interesting newcomer to bear in mind if he is backed to make a winning debut. The last named is a son of the famous Pasternak and a half-brother to a winning Irish pointer. There is plenty to like about him on paper and it will be noteworthy to see if his claims are backed up financially. Milljaz won a point-to-point last month, so obviously has to be respected. This is a much different proposition though and it may be prudent to just take a few notes on this occasion. Wilhewispa was a cheap purchase that would make more appeal as a miler on the flat. However, stranger things have happened and Malcolm Jefferson would not be wasting his time sending him down from North Yorkshire if he did feel his charge was in with a chance of at least making the frame. However, Brinkmanship sets the standard on the evidence available and has an obvious chance of getting off the mark in this company.
