In depth

Verdict

A poor contest which looks to be a good opportunity for Little Richard to end a frustrating run and get his nose in front. The Alhaarth gelding has just one career win to his name, over this course and distance last May. Exposed ever since, he has run well off his current mark on his last three starts, without being good enough to score. However, he remains in form and can finally make it win number two here, receiving weight from horses lower down the handicap. One of those in top weight Occam, who is ridden by Dean Corby - normal partner to the selection. Though he too is a course and distance winner, Occam has slipped well down the ratings and was beaten into the next county here the other day. Lilardo is a third course and distance winner in the field and merits respect, but again looks to be badly in with the selection at these weights. Of the remainder Vermilion Creek looks to be most interesting. Stepped up to this trip for the first time, she comes here fresh, has ability and it would not be a major shock if Reg Hollinshead were to work the oracle.
