In depth

Verdict

Another lowly polytrack contest, but there has to be a winner, and we think that could be KOMREYEV STAR, although High Five Society and Piermarini should come into calculations. The selection hasn't won for more than a year and has been racing mainly at Southwell recently. He's now off a mark below what he last won at and is looking competitive again. The switch to the faster surface here may be seen as a positive factor in the betting ring. High Five Society won a classified stakes race here on Friday, so has a six pounds penalty which makes him top weight, but only just with Kevin Ghunowa claiming three. Given that was his first win since March though, there are no guarantees that he can show the improvement needed to land this. Piermarini steps back up in trip, and had his best run for a while here in handicap company last time out, after being well beaten in some sellers. He's only ever been placed once though which wouldn't offer much encouragement, and his inclusion on the shortlist maybe says more about some of the others than him. Our choice though would be Komreyev Star.
