In depth

Verdict

BERKSHIRE ROYAL has been gelded since last seen at Windsor in October. By Sir Percy and a half-brother to a 1m4f winner on Polytrack, the longer distance should suit Andrew Balding’s charge and he makes more appeal than Birdette, though Mark Johnston will probably find a race for the filly this year. Appenzeller’s fourth over track and trip 12 days ago was his best effort to date and any improvement on that would put him bang in the firing-line – he holds Short Head on that run. Captain Kissinger has hinted at ability and Poppy Bridgwater claims a further 5lb off the bottom weight.
