In depth

Verdict

In a race where the market may be dominated by Son Of Greek Myth and Day One, Colleton River may be worth chancing. The selection needs to improve on his debut effort in a course and distance maiden last month but is entitled to do so and, having been denied a clear run in the race won by Flaming Eyes, is probably better than he showed that day. Son Of Greek Myth undoubtedly has the best form on offer but having run second behind the useful Let The Lion Roar on his debut as a juvenile, the son of Silver Hawk went quickly downhill afterwards and has not shown enough over hurdles of late to warrant support here. The Ian Williams-trained Hawkes Run, a winner over hurdles, has an absence to overcome and may just need the outing today and of more interest may be Hugh Morrison's Luce, who hails from a stable in form and should step up on his recent all-weather debut at Lingfield. Day One has shown enough to suggest that he can play a part in the finish but Colleton River is open to plenty of improvement and gets the vote.
