Verdict

Having placed Tous les Deux, Kings Cavalier, Hot, Bathwick Prince and Scooby Dude on the shortlist, the vote went to Tous les Deux. Tous les Deux was beaten a short head at Chepstow on her debut by Oceans Pride, who had earlier shown good promise at Newbury. The form of her defeat looks more than good enough to play a major part in this race and, as such, she gets the vote. The Richard Hannon-trained Kings Cavalier, who cost 75,000 guineas, rates an obvious alternative, and the betting market should be watched with interest, while Hannon's other runner, Hot, has not been beaten far in two fair soft-ground events thus far and this faster going could bring about further improvement. Bathwick Prince showed improvement to finish behind a Hannon runner at Lingfield last time, so once again the betting should prove informative, while Scooby Dude has done little wrong in two starts so far, winning the most recent of them and, with his likeable racing attitude, he is a danger to all. The others would be hard to fancy at this stage, which returns us to the selection, which is Tous les Deux.
