In depth

Verdict

Cd Europe landed the Group 3 Coventry Stakes in 2000 but has failed to add to his tally since and looks on the downgrade judged on recent outings. Highland Reel runs well when fresh and is on a fair mark but is not easy to win with while Esher Common has more to do than when scoring in selling company recently. Passing Glance was not beaten far behind Simeon (followed up with easy win at Haydock on Saturday) earlier in the month and is entitled to respect. Thihn raced on the favoured far rail in the Lincoln when staying on strongly to claim the minor honours with Duke Of Modena (13th) and Mana Mou Bay (last) both well held although this pair were drawn on the opposite side and are better than the bare result implies. However, the ground may be a shade too lively for Toby Balding's charge so in a tricky race marginal preference is for Thihn who improved 35lb throughout last term and took a similar event over course and distance last June. Pat Eddery looks a significant booking.
