Verdict

As you would expect from a race of this nature, this is a tight affair, with the vote going to Mad Carew ahead of El Chaparral, Doris Souter, Anuvasteel, Uig and Barton Sands. Anuvasteel and Barton Sands are possibly better on the all-weather, although they certainly hold claims today, while it would be no surprise to see El Chaparral put in a good effort, something he is entitled to do on his best Turf form. Now you could say that the selection is also better on artificial surfaces but, that said, the best of his more-recent Turf form should make him competitive from a rating of 69. Recent efforts leave the course and distance winners, Hatch A Plan and Littleton Telchar, with a little to find but the other c/d winner, Doris Souter, certainly holds claims if putting her best foot forward. Uig might fare better over this trip than last time at Bath, and is respected, while the best of Red Sail's maiden form is looking better with the win of Into The Shadows at Chester last week. In conclusion then, in a race where the betting should be viewed with interest, the selection is Mad Carew.
