Verdict

A wide open apprentice handicap to get proceedings underway and Makabul is given the vote. Bidding for his fourth course and distance victory here, the worry would the ground which is likely to be quicker than ideal for Rod Millman's charge but he has dropped to what appears an attractive mark having failed to score in the past twelve months and the yard are firing in the winners at present. Mandarin Spirit is another than has not won for quite a while but he put in an improved effort at Leicester last time. If the market speaks in Mandarin Spirit's favour that would make him of real interest while Hart Of Gold who finished just behind Mandarin Spirit last time is another worthy for the shortlist, given that the weights suggest there should not be much to choose between the two here. At bigger prices Cheap Street could go well while Kelamon has the services of William Buick but appeared to get outpaced over this trip last time. Makabul is the selection to land the opener.
