In depth

Verdict

Although facing some useful opposition in the likes of Garruth and Hurricane Lamp this should go to Bright Approach, who comes here fit after a recent win in a point-to-point. The selection was a consistent performer in hunter chases last term, winning races at Ludlow and Folkestone but put up his best display when a highly creditable second to Kingscliff in the Christie's Foxhunter Chase at the Festival meeting. A reproduction of that form should suffice for the 11-year-old. Although two years his senior, Alan King's Hurricane Lamp is still capable of fair form and rates a bigger danger than Richard Barber's Garruth, despite the latter having had the benefit of a recent spin between the flags. Henrietta Knight's Rathbawn Prince would be a major threat if able to recapture some of his old sparkle but there has been little sign of that in recent outings and he is probably best watched for the time being. A similar comment applies to Good Time Melody, who has a long absence to overcome, and Soloman, who has seemingly lost his way badly since last seen under rules. Some interesting recruits to the hunter chase ranks make this a potentially informative contest but the one to be on is Bright Approach who has plenty going for him.
