In depth

Verdict

Kinburn won three from three last term and has to be respected on his reappearance but Howard Johnson's gelding has a career high mark to defy and will need to be absolutely spot on to make a winning return so preference is for Too Forward, who gets the vote over Ross Comm. The selection ran well from out of the weights proper when last seen in a valuable race at Cheltenham last April and has solid claims off his proper mark today. Lack of a recent run need not be of too much concern as Carl Llewellyn has his string in fine form and he is taken to make the most of what looks a favourable mark. Roman Ark has the ability to take a hand in a race of this nature but is becoming frustrating so may be best watched, while Hautclan could probably do with some help from the handicapper having failed to trouble the judge in four starts since joining Jonjo O'Neill. Sue Smith's Ross Comm had a nice pipe-opener over hurdles at Worcester recently and should be more at home over the larger obstacles today but he does not appear to be the best treated of runners and a better bet may prove to be Too Forward, who has solid claims.
