Verdict

Green Beret can continue the card's military theme by shedding his maiden tag at the third attempt. John Gosden appears to have found a nice opening away from the limelight of the July meeting for this half-brother to Tax Free and he should be a warm order. He's shaped encouragingly in maidens at Windsor and Newmarket (the fourth a winner since) and his breeding suggests that he won't be inconvenienced by the softer conditions. My Best Man stepped up markedly on his debut form when running on into third behind a very easy and potentially smart winner at Chepstow; the second had already shown useful form and he couldn't be dismissed with further improvement likely. Red Baron Dancer has settled for second on both starts and should find a race but it's unlikely that Jim Boyle's runner who debuted in a Thirsk seller has what's required to make it this one. Tyler looks up against it on all known form whilst Grand Plan has questions to answer on her return; it's hard to fault her debut second to Percolator who has come to the boil nicely since April but it's harder to get enthusiastic about her second start which followed hard on the heels of her first. She has been given a break and may have more to offer but she has something to find on form and it's tough to get away from Green Beret.
