Verdict

A big field for this stamina test won last year by Goodnight Charlie, who is still 8lb higher despite being badly out of sorts this season. Belle Empress has shown herself to be a strong stayer this term, winning over even further at Exeter. Echo Watt has won his last two at Uttoxeter and Fontwell but this will be his first try beyond 3m. Western Climate is a consistent sort and Alminar won well at Chepstow while High Counsel was in the form of his life around the turn of the year, though didn’t appear to stay this trip last time at Bangor. Lord In Red and FLEMINPORT were both behind Gary Hanmer’s veteran here in January but the latter made mistakes and wasn’t given a hard time. He made late headway and this trip should suit. Spider's Bite would have a cracking chance on last year’s form and shouldn’t be ignored with the champion doing the steering.
