In depth

Verdict

This is an interesting handicap and only a tentative vote is given to Breaking Shadow, with Red Affleck, Kanad, Walkonthewildside, King Of Love, Physical and Dahliyev being listed among others to consider. Breaking Shadow's form has a solid look to it, having finished behind Secret History but ahead of Royal Orissa within her last three outings, and that is probably form that is good enough to get competitive here. Bolton Hall was one-and-three-quarter lengths behind Breaking Shadow at Beverley on April 21 but is three pounds better off at the weights today. The lightly-race King Of Love has to be of interest from the Mark Johnston stable, and market confidence would have to be respected. Red Affleck was disappointing last time but, on the pick of his form, certainly has to be considered, while, with his stable among the winners, it would be no surprise to see Dahliyev, who showed promise last season, run well today. It is hard to gauge whether Profit's Reality is on a reasonable mark, and Walkonthewildside finished tailed off in a Group 3 race last time. That might have been flying high but at least he must be considered to have some ability. Forfeiter seemed to improve on the all-weather during the winter, but will need to carry that through to the Turf, and Kanad certainly improved for the application of blinkers last time and, if they do the trick again, he holds good claims. Overall, though, the vote goes to Breaking Shadow.
