In depth

Verdict

Little for us to go on in this bumper, where there are not even any runners from the top yards to help our cause, so without that we will suggest CARPINCHO to get the better of Cashpoint. The latter won a similar contest on Lingfield's Polytrack last month, and therefore has to lug around a penalty this time. If that wasn't enough of an issue for him, there are also serious concerns over whether he will act on soft ground and he looks worth taking on. So Sauvage is one of the more interesting newcomers from a yard that can ready them to win first time, and with a good pilot on board, so the betting should be a good guide, although the four-year-old's pedigree is nothing special. Northwold is going the right way and has experience on soft ground here, so there could be more to come, while Towcester runner-up Ridley Taylor has a bit to prove after her last effort in the spring. Knottage Hill is related to winners and his stable has been firing of late, so he is worth consideration, but preference is for Carpincho. Susan Humphrey has been among the winners for this season and this five-year-old gelding enjoyed a soft ground point win in October. With at least some experience of success on his side and fitness unlikely to be an issue, we will side with him to come good on the racecourse.
