In depth

Verdict

Hanover Square may supplement recent gains at the expense of Jaloux d'Estruval, Dantes Venture and Camross in the opening event on the card. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained eight-year-old came good at Huntingdon 10 days, when his battling qualities came into play, as he repelled his rivals. He has shaped well since reverting back to the smaller obstacles, and despite a rise in the weights, is worth supporting if in the same mood. Jalou d'Estruval is back over hurdles for the first time since 2001, hopefully to get his confidence back after unseating in the Agfa Diamond Chase. His target is the Grand Military Gold Cup in March so connections will be hoping that he improves by then. Dantes Venture has the assistance of Sam Thomas so despite his weight, should not be overlooked, while Camross bids to repeat his Boxing Day course win and will not mind the step up in trip. However, he does have more on his plate here, and will do well to master our idea of the winner, Hanover Square.
