In depth

Verdict

Wychbury looks to have a pretty straightforward task in this ordinary maiden, with Rosie Mac and Gasparini best of the rest. The selection has almost a stone in hand on his opponents according to official figures, and while results don't often work out as clear cut as that type of thing suggests, a look at his record gives us enough information to be confident. A five length second to Mutamared here over course and distance in May was not a bad effort, while an even better one in the context of this race was when also runner-up next time at Brighton, also on fast ground. Given a short break since an abortive attempt at a mile last time, trip and ground are in his favour and a reproduction of either of those two previous seven furlong runs will be good enough. Rosie Mac is one of those with a fair bit to find on form so far. Neville Bycroft's filly is bred to get further than this, but has been running out of gas in three starts over seven furlongs so far, including on debut here last month. Experience is in the plus column, but speed is clearly a problem and another solid run into a place here looks her best chance. Gasparini finished down the field on his only other run on ground as fast as this at York in May. However, there was encouragement from his length second to Menai Straights at Carlisle earlier in the month and a repeat of that could be good enough to see him make the minors. The other Bycroft runner, Dium Mac is also not without a chance on his two starts to date, so perhaps the market can give us a guide to which is the better fancied. Nevertheless we think Wychbury has the class to break his duck here.
