In depth

Verdict

Goodness was well ahead of Grey Command when second on his reappearance at Newcastle but is still a maiden and 2lb higher here. Embsay Crag made late headway into third at Catterick 11 day ago and has to go on the short-list with the softer ground in his favour but Southern State seems best on an artificial surface and this may be a shade too far for veteran Veiled Applause. Pontefract second Ay Tay Tate has already had a busy year but there should be more to come from KORNGOLD, who won a Chepstow handicap on similar going last year and is lightly-raced. John Dunlop has a terrific strike rate with the few runners he sends up from his Arundel base and the selection is his only representative today.
