Verdict

The second race of the day is another maiden, and we'll side here with BALTIC BEN, ahead of Royal Swain and Suyoof. Eve Johnson-Houghton's gelding hasn't shown much to date, but experience could count. He's one of only two to have an official rating, and although he's no world-beater coming here with a mark of 59, he's well in at the weights with a few of his rivals. A blow out around Lingfield last week saw him last on his first run since the autumn, but what's intriguing is the fact he's here at all. He's the only interest on the card for trainer and jockey, and it's a long way to come to just get beaten out of sight. He may be worth at least an each-way punt, given that most of these haven't done anything to write home about to date. An exception to that may be Royal Swain, who's won won a couple of bumpers, and who impressed on her one flat race to date too, a fortnight ago when runner up here in a similar contest. Suyoof from Mark Johnston's yard steps up in trip, and looks like one of his that could improve from debut. As with any maiden the market needs a close watch, but our tentative support goes the way of Baltic Ben.
