Verdict

It should pay to stick with experience here, with Smokincanon and Bold Marc making the most appeal; although World At My Feet and Special Gold should know a little bit more about the task in hand today and support for either will be interesting. However, Smokincanon just edges the vote today after showing a good deal of speed in both his previous starts; the last being the most eye-catching when he overcame steering problems on the turn for home to score decisively over a fairly useful form book guide in Lateral Thinker, who subsequently went well in defeat in a better race at Warwick. Normal improvement will be enough to ensure that Smokincanon does himself justice and he could be a little nippy for Bold Marc, who is sure to need another furlong at least judging by his pedigree. Out of the others, Melandre is one to note in running as the daughter of Lujain is bred to make an impact at this sort of trip. She may be the one to benefit the most from the experience today and is probably best watched for now. Therefore, Smokincanon is taken to build on the promise shown in his previous starts and add to his trainer's 17% strike-rate with his juveniles from this season.
