In depth

Verdict

Lead On can make up for his costly fall of three weeks ago to get the better of Another Bottle and King's Revenge. Lead On will need to brush up his jumping here that is for sure, but after clouting the first three obstacles on his debut at Wincanton recently, he was warming to his task when crashing out at the final flight. He had just taken the lead off Fredensborg at the time, and may well have held on. He gets the chance for compensation today and is selected to stop the Nicholls newcomer Another Bottle. The latter kept good company on the Flat for Tom Tate, and rounded off his career at Tadcaster by running in the Cambridgeshire. It remains to be seen whether he has the stamina for this game however, and a watching brief may be a sensible policy to adopt on this occasion at least. King's Revenge absolutely cantered up at Lingfield, a result that came as no surprise after his earlier effort against the useful Pauillac, and with Alan King in terrific form, the four-year-old should run a big race. Of the remainder, Shambar and Country Escape may make a bid for the frame, but we are happy to side with Lead On.
