Verdict

Templer has obvious claims over The Grey Man, with Kenwyn and Unlimited best of the remainder. This is a moderate maiden hurdle that should be well within the scope of Templer who returns to the fray after a 184-day absence. The Philip Hobbs inmate failed to cut the mustard in four starts over timber earlier in the year, rounding off his campaign with a second at Exeter to the odds-on Vaughan who was ridden by Richard Johnson that day. He now gets back on the selection, and connections look to have found a soft opportunity, as he will find life tougher off his current mark when put into handicaps. His main rival here is The Grey Man who will at least be fit from the Flat, but he showed little on his timber bow at Hereford just over three weeks ago, and is passed over. Kenwyn was only rated in the 60's when last seen on the level in 2005, while Unlimited was successful over five furlongs last year, and there has to be a question mark over his stamina. Templer is nothing special, but should be good enough to take care of this lot.
