Verdict

Disappointingly just the four runners have been declared for this handicap chase with each of the quartet rated 125 but it does not look as competitive as the handicapper suggests with recent Newton Abbot winner SAFARI JOURNEY having an obvious chance of following up and he gets the vote ahead of Torrid Kentavr and Star of Germany. David Pipe's gelding was good value for his win at Worcester last month but struggled off his new mark at Newton Abbot subsequently and he may do so again today. Charlie Mann's Laoch Dubh is more than capable of taking a hand in the finish but he has disappointed of late and is hard to recommend on recent form. James Lambe's Torrid Kentavr has been running inconsistently but has to be considered, however, Safari Journey has an obvious chance and is hard to oppose. Capable over hurdles, the five-year-old showed improved form on only his second start over fences for Philip Hobbs when running out the easy winner at Newton Abbot last week. The 7lb penalty for that success should not prevent Safari Journey from following up.
