In depth

Verdict

Smart Scot has won his last two starts in similar company and is taken to complete a hat trick at the main expense of Jessie and Dancing King. The selection followed up his win in an amateur riders' event here over a mile last month with a win over course and distance in an apprentices' banded stakes race last time. This does not look to be a great deal better and Brian Baugh's gelding should be good enough to win again. Jessie has run well in better grade races in her last two starts and has to be respected dropped into such lowly company today. She makes more appeal Friday's Wolverhampton winner Dancing King, who may find this coming too soon having raced on Tuesday as well. Silver Mascot has ran well in similar company in his last two starts and should be thereabouts again, while Brillyant Dancer is entitled to improve for his recent return to competitive action. Beauteous is more than capable of taking a hand in this grade but has given little sign of encouragement of late and preference is for the hat trick-seeking Smart Scot.
