In depth

Verdict

An intriguing little handicap can go the way of Red Petal as she is proven over this sort of trip, although there could be improvement to come from all of the others and so dangers lurk everywhere. The selection put in a much improved performance when stepped up in trip three weeks ago, and with the stable in form, she should run her race. Six Day War has won here at Southwell but appreciated the drop in trip to a mile when scoring last time out so today's trip could be a bridge too far. Colditz makes his all-weather debut today however his only win came over seven furlongs so he is another for whom stamina must be taken on trust. Peregrine Falcon ran as though he will appreciate this step up in trip last time out and with jockey Joe Fanning very astute from the front, he could be hard to peg back if gifted an easy lead. Personal Column took a while to get going when winning at Kempton last year and should go close today if refreshed after his break. He looks the main danger, but we will stick with Red Petal as our selection to continue Sir Mark Prescott's good form.
