In depth

Verdict

Paddywack doesn't appear to be the horse of old but should still be capable of landing a race of this nature, St Ivian and Carnivore may provide most danger. David Chapman's eight-year-old was rated 73 this time last year and is now down to a very tempting mark following a run of 24 defeats. The signs are there that he can win another race having finished just three lengths behind Brigadore at Pontefract in July. A repeat of that effort could be good enough today. St Ivian seems to be a better horse at Wolverhampton but he has gone well here during the summer and this consistent type should be involved once again. Carnivore is very lightly raced and his recent effort at Carlisle behind Geordie Dancer reads well, if he handles this surface he should play a major role. It is not a race to get too heavily involved in, but Paddywack could be worth a small wager at a big price.
