In depth

Verdict

LORD OBERON (NAP) sets the standard but also has the crucial advantage of experience of the surface, gained when making a winning debut here in January. The form reads well as the runner-up went on to run well behind the unbeaten Casey Jones at Newcastle before returning here to break his maiden in facile fashion. The selection was also far from disgraced on his only subsequent start when a respectable fourth in a Kempton novice stakes conceding weight all round and can return to winning ways. Jack Taylor looks the danger as he had some fair juvenile form and will come on a bundle for his seasonal reappearance. Royal has some placed form in France and the market would reflect any stable confidence on debut for the Watson stable.
