In depth

Verdict

Pavey Ark is selected to open his account over fences at the expense of Finzi, Gaucho and Andaleer. This lot were nothing special over hurdles, but maybe one or two will improve and pick up a race or two over fences. Pavey Ark has been a familiar sight at this track since going chasing, all three outings over the bigger obstacles coming here. He has improved bit by bit, but his jumping so far has left a lot to be desired. However, his course knowledge should give Jimmy Moffatt's six-year-old the edge, especially in this company. Finzi is likely to try and make the running as he did at Bangor, but even this trip is on the short side. Gaucho got no further than the second fence at Market Rasen but has a bit of experience. His trainer has ridden him plenty of times but she has put Laurie McGrath up again, so lets hope that he has better luck this time. Andaleer can only improve on what he showed in moderate company over timber, but in a poor affair, the one to beat is Pavey Ark.
