In depth

Verdict

Floodlight Fantasy heads a short-list which also features Northern Vic and Kerry's Blade. A few of these have plenty to prove at present and that includes the selection although there are no concerns with regard to his well being and his small stable has quickly made a name for itself. The Fantastic Light gelding has won on the Flat and over hurdles since joining his current yard earlier this year and has been in particularly good form of late, winning over timber at Fakenham before making a bold attempt to defy a penalty when turned out again quickly. He didn't show much on his sole attempt over fences back in March but his trainer is sure to have done plenty of work with him since then and he appears to be on a decent mark. Northern Vic has shown better form over fences and was reported to have finished lame when pulled up just eight days ago. Presumably, those fears were unfounded given his quick reappearance and he's run well here in the past but he has shown his best form over distances in excess of today's. Kerry's Blade is another that doesn't come into the race in great form (although he did run well on the Flat earlier in the month) but he may just have needed his run at Cartmel last month and he's another that has shown some form at this track and his trainer has engaged a top conditional to do the steering. The booking of De Giles for True Temper also takes the eye whilst Iowa is another to keep a close eye on. He hasn't shown a great deal under Rules but has been in good form between the flags and Neil King's yard is another that is well worth keeping an eye on. The suggestion though is Floodlight Fantasy.
