In depth

Verdict

Goldan Jess had Errol and High Country a long way behind when winning here last time and may be able to make his first start for new connections a winning one in a competitive final of this series. He has been raised 10lbs for that facile success but he never came off the bridle and has joined a shrewd outfit. As well as the negative of the increase in the weights he also has an extra half a mile to travel this afternoon and there must be a slight concern about how well he will see out the trip. Coronado's Gold is a consistent sort and, as such, merits respect in this grade and it's just possible that his first attempt at this distance will eke out a few pounds of improvement but he has found winning difficult thus far. Goodnight Dick may appreciate the quicker ground but was a shade disappointing last time as were Dyneburg and Gotnodestination. It's entirely possible given that runners at this level aren't always the most consistent that one of them will recapture their form but recent efforts suggest that Coronado's Gold and Goldan Jess are the two to concentrate on here and our vote is awarded to the Swinbank runner despite concerns over the rise in the weights and the step up in trip.
