In depth

Verdict

This is an interesting opener and, from a shortlist containing Small Stakes, Windwood, Park Approach, Rubies and Unreal, we will side with Park Approach. The Jeremy Noseda-trained filly has shown promise on each of her starts to date, including when racing from an unfavourable draw when third at Windsor last time out. There are no such problems today and, on better going, she should be seen in a better light. Unreal ran second to Simplify at Warwick last time and this beautifully-bred filly has certainly shown enough to take a race of this nature. Simplify will by now also have run at Epsom on Thursday. She holds chances, as does Rubies based on her fair second at Bath on her racecourse debut. Much as the form of Encouragement's second run, when third to Swan Nebula, is pretty solid, she disappointed last time and, as such, maybe the newcomers Small Stakes, who is a brother to a German winner and whose dam won the Flying Childers, and Windwood, a 60,000 guineas purchase who is a half-brother by Piccolo to the top-class miler Where Or When, are the ones to watch for in the betting. Overall, though, the vote goes to Park Approach.
