Verdict

Tanterari can make the most of his light weight to beat Inca Trail, Campaign Trail and Willie John Daly. With Toulouse-Lautrec taking up an alternative engagement at Exeter 24 hours earlier, it is doubtful whether Tom George's charge will even line up, and so the path looks clear for Tanterani to step up on his promising return at Aintree last month. This time last year Martin Pipe's seven-year-old managed to rattle up five wins from six starts before his form started to disappear, and as he was not given a hard time on his return, a bold effort is predicted on the way to a crack at the Welsh National in just over three weeks time. Inca Trail was given a peach of a ride by Charlotte Tizzard at Wincanton, the first time that she has ever ridden Paul Nicholls's gelding, and anybody that remembers his cheeky win here under Ruby Walsh last March will see him as a major player. Campaign Trail was given a spin over hurdles on his return at Market Rasen and has a fair weight, but a bigger threat may be Willie John Daly who showed signs of a return to form behind Getoutwhenyoucan at Cheltenham. However, Martin Pipe trained the winner, and will be able to gauge just what Tanterari has to do to beat today's rival. He looks a typical Pipe improver and gets our vote.
