In depth

Verdict

Royal Ascot third Milk It Mick is fancied to regain the winning thread, with Romancero, If Paradise and Nights Cross the main dangers. Jamie Osborne's colt finished a fine third in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot last week, having won his previous two starts and he looks a progressive juvenile. He has the pace to handle this drop back to six furlongs, acts well on fast ground and has a good chance to return to winning ways. Nights Cross has been far from disgraced in the Group 3 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and in a Listed event at Epsom on last two starts. He takes a drop in class here, but has to concede plenty of weight. Romancero won a four runner novice event at Musselburgh by ten lengths on Monday. Dropping back in trip here should not pose a problem, as he had the speed to win at this trip earlier. He acts on fast ground and Kieren Fallon keeps the ride, so although he meets much tougher rivals today, he is still a strong challenger. If Paradise recorded a decent juvenile time when he landed a maiden auction at Leicester last month, and the third has won since. Richard Hannon's colt should benefit from this step up to six furlongs and the stable has a fine record here at Salisbury. He is open to plenty of improvement, but Milk It Mick may just have too much for him today, and he gets the vote under Richard Quinn.
