In depth

Verdict

Making it onto the shortlist for this race are Kingscross, Chinalea and, at a bigger price, Sabrina Brown, with the vote going to Kingscross. If he can build on the momentum of his good Newbury second to Exmoor last time, Kingscross, who is set to go up by three pounds in future ratings, shoud go well today. Seven pounds above the rating of his Goodwood win, Romany Nights has something to prove now, while Awitesweetheart is a speedball, although she did act on soft and stay six furlongs on it at two years of age. Devon Flame is the sole course and distance winner in the line-up, although she remains five pounds above the most recent of those victories and has never won on going any slower than good. Capricho is a shadow of his former self, although his old form would give him an excellent chance, while much as Sabrina Brown has shown little in six starts, she now races off the mark from which she won at Pontefract on good to soft last September. Chinalea now races from a pound below the mark that he won from at Sandown on soft last August, so cannot be ruled out and he is certainly going well at present, while Born To Be Bold is seven pounds better off with Kingscross for around three-and-a-half lengths based on Newbury form. We will still stick with Kingscross, though, as the selection.
