In depth

Verdict

The form of Aye Aye Digby's Goodwood run may have been boosted by Pha Mai Blue in the opener, however Dubai Samurai brings arguably the best form into the race and he gets the vote ahead of Charmel's Lad. The selection came on significantly for his debut run when fourth last time out at Ascot in a better race than this. That was on good to soft so he shouldn't mind any rain and with Frankie Dettori an eye-catching jockey booking, a big run is expected. The betting should provide any clues regarding the chances of the newcomers, the most interesting of which appears to be Charmel's Lad. A 30,000 guineas son of Compton Place, the stable had a well-backed debutante winner earlier this week and are in good form. Dauberval, Palmerin and Agglestone Rock should all come on for their debut efforts, however of more interest may be Belle Bellino. She shapes as if this step up in trip will suit and assuming that she continues to progress with each race, then she has place claims at least. However we are happy to return to the progressive Dubai Samurai as the nomination.
