In depth

Verdict

The market should provide the best guide to the outcome of this event with all bar three making their racecourse debuts. Richard Hannon's Measurement is selected on the basis that he has the benefit of an outing at Goodwood. He was the stable second string on his debut but was doing his best work in the closing stages. It is worth noting that the form did not receive a boost on Friday evening when the second, Woolston Ferry was well beaten. However the Hannon yard have had a strangle hold on the majority of 2yr old events this season and should Measurement attract support, it will be significant. Minder was just behind Measurement at Goodwood and raced in a similar style to the selection. There should not be much to choose between the two again here while the Peter Chapple-Hyam trained - Royal Executioner, a cheaply purchased yearling, is also an interesting contender. Kosama makes appeal on breeding, being a half-brother to a former smart sort called Al Turf, a winner over this trip as a juvenile. Measurement gets the vote to land the opener but the market will prove the all important guide.
