Verdict

CRYSTAL GALE is the one here after such a promising debut at Lingfield; the list of dangers is headed by French Connection, Saxby and newcomers Newton Circus and Dudley. This could turn out to be the slightly stronger of the two divisions, with the selection having shaped well on his Lingfield debut and others having showed promise. William Knight's colt was unfancied at 33/1 but he ran a great race in second and should give it a bold go this afternoon. John Portman gets some good juveniles so Dudley, a son of Compton Place out of a multiple winning mare, needs respect, as do Newton Circus and Atomic Twister who represent stables who do well with their two-year-old's. Volatilis seems to be slowly getting the hang of things but may be one for handicaps, whilst Mnarani and D'Urberville both need to improve on their first starts. Saxby's debut run at Chepstow behind Avonvalley was more promising, and the longer trip will suit, whilst French Connexion's most recent run at Chepstow (in-front of Saxby) was an improvement on his previous two starts. A tricky race to really get to grips with but we will stick with Crystal Gale.
