MONTALBANO finished in front of Riven Light, Chirico Vallis, Avenir D'une Vie and the pulled-up Chateau Conti when third behind stable companion Bleu Berry in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse early this month. He led for much of the way and this represents a drop in grade so he can return to winning ways, though Riven Light also travelled well throughout and only faded in the closing stages. Castlegrace Paddy was having only his second start over timber when running away with a maiden at Gowran, though that was on testing ground.
