Verdict

Several interesting newcomers on show here and the likes of Art Historian, Bollin David and Royal Engineer are all worth keeping tabs on whatever happens today. However, it may be worth chancing a small investment with Strike Up The Band, who is related to several useful individuals that made their mark around this trip. David Nicholls has started the campaign well and has a better record with his first time out runners than many would believe. An 11% strike-rate has produced a healthy profit to level stakes and any support in the ring for this brother to the high-class Sampower Star should not be ignored. Art Historian also has to be respected on pedigree and can be expected to know what is required of him. However, his yard have been hitting the post recently and he may need more time. Bollin David is out of a winning sprinter and looks the pick of the Tim Easterby-trained pair. The yard had a first time up winner at Haydock at the weekend and this son of Golden Snake has to be of interest here. As does Royal Engineer, who was marginally the most expensive of these when he went through the sales ring. He should not be inconvenienced by the minimum trip and his high draw is not such a worry when there is cut in the ground at this track. However, Strike Up The Band makes more appeal on the grounds of value and looks worth a small investment in a tricky race to call.
