In depth

Verdict

Ambion Hill should be picking up a handicap off his current mark when the ground turns soft but it must be interesting that Simon Earle has booked Richard Johnson for Big Tree, who was knocking on the door in better races in Ireland around this time last year. Meyer Lansky went close at Chepstow last season but HAWK’S WELL may have been underestimated by the handicapper given he was still learning his job last season. Merry Milan was second off this mark at Warwick but there were only four runners and Emphatic Qualm has more scope.
