Verdict

Martin Pipe has a strong hand in this claimer, and Mantras is preferred to stablemate Better Moment, while Brochrua and Sir Walter appeal as best of the rest. Sir Walter is a fair sort in this garde, and Sir Walter finished a close third in an amateurs race at Stratford last time, so should be thereabouts if able to reproduce that form. Brochrua won a similar race over course and distance back in May and was a close third in a better race at Towcester on her only subsequent start. The problem for Jimmy Frost's filly is likely to be the soft ground, as most of her form has come on a fast surface. Better Moment has been off the course since running poorly in a selling handicap at Uttoxeter in April, but this course and distance winner would have a chance on some of his older form, particular if his subsequent break has freshened him up. A better proposition may just be Mantras, who shaped well on his British debut in May, finishing third in an amateurs' handicap at Stratford. He hasn't really lived up to that form in two subsequent races, but they have been on much faster ground and this drop in class combined with the ease in underfoot conditions may just be what Mantras requires. Red Nose Lady comes here in good heart, having won a seller at Uttoxeter last time, but Mantras gets the vote.
