In depth

Verdict

A big field and not an easy race to asses, given that many of them are out of form and all exposed, but we will side with Inchpast to defy a 7lb rise, with Ellina, Polar Dancer and Siegfrieds Night receiving honourable mentions. The Mark Tompkins-trained selection has not run well from around this mark in the past, but both those attempts were when there was cut in the ground. A better effort on fast ground at Catterick followed earlier in the month, and the trainer had his colt at fever pitch for a good ground Yarmouth success over 11 furlongs last time. The return to a mile-and-a-half will suit and he looks capable of progressing now connections have found they key to him, so he can follow up. Ellina has to concede 5lb to the selection and may find that beyond her. Even so, she was staying on well for a polytrack win last time and she should be able to handle this ground, so she can go very well. Polar Dancer has a bit of ability but seems reluctant to show her true worth thus far. Her third to Doctored at Lingfield last time gives her a chance, but she is a doubtful stayer, while Siegfrieds Night should get home all right, but he may just have a little too much weight at present and a place looks the best he can hope for. Not a race to get too heavily involved in, but if you must punt then take Inchpast to small stakes to follow up his recent success.
