Verdict

Flashy Wings is fancied to bounce back after tasting defeat for the first time at Newbury 12 days ago, and Mick Channon's filly is taken to master the likes of Wake Up Maggie, Nidhaal, Beauty Bright and Donna Blini. Flashy Wings was promoted to the head of the ante-post betting for next year's 1,000 Guineas after a string of victories including the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot at York and the Lowther Stakes on a return visit to the Knavesmire. She was all the rage for the Watership Down Sales race at Newbury 12 days ago but had her colours lowered by Expensive, collared in the closing stages. Ted Durcan reckons that he would have won had his filly had some company next to her, and it was no surprise that she maintained her position at the head of the market for the 2006 Classic afterwards. Providing the ground does not turn soft, the daughter of Zafonic should bounce straight back to land her first Group 1 victory. Wake Up Maggie, successful in the Tattersalls Ireland Sales Stakes at The Curragh last month, is likely to make here presence felt along with Nidhaal who has been supported for this since her win in the Listed Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes at Salisbury at the start of the month. Best of the the three Irish challengers looks to be Beauty Bright, although Aidan O'Brien's runner is held by the selection on Lowther running, having finished back in third. Brian Meehan captured this prize 12 months ago with Magical Romance, and now saddles Donna Blini, winner of this year's Cherry Hinton and set to be re-united with Mick Kinane, having his first ride since suffering a wrist fracture in August. James Fanshawe's youngsters are flying at present, but it is surely asking too much of Riotous Applause make the leap from a Redcar maiden to this level, and we fully expect Flashy Wings to come out on top.
